7 Free Days Out and Things to Do With Kids in North Lanarkshire (Updated 2025)
Ahoy there money-savvy adventurers.
If you're looking to for a fun and free day out, then check out these things to do with the kids in North Lanarkshire. Whether it's stepping back in time at North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre, or letting off steam at the Craig Park, there's options here to suit all ages, whatever the weather.
I've tried to make sure that all the details on here are up to date, but please do double check on the websites I've linked to before you travel in case anything has changed. Especially important: double check parking costs to avoid any nasty surprises on a day out that was supposed to be cheap, and obviously, be careful if you're visiting places with kids, especially where the terrain is dangerous (ruins, cliffs, beaches, slippy paths etc).

An extensive museum telling the social history of the people in the industrial town. There's things for kids including an adventure playpark, heritage tramway, cottages decorated in the style of bygone days.
Adventure playgrounds, beautiful walks, plenty of wildlife to spot. You can pay to hire family fun boats or bikes.
500 acres of moorlands, woodlands and grasslands. There are 2 lochs, an adventure playground, a peace garden, and seasonal funboat hire.
As well as the local history element to the museum, there's outdoor play equipment, a viewing tower, and a climb thru time exhibit. Check the website for activities including bookbug, and crafts.
A new park has been opened in Ravenscraig, at the site of the former steelworks. It includes a playground, a sensory garden, and lots of open space.
More than 40 hectares has been turned into a haven for wildlife for animals including roe deer, badgers, foxes, and Kestrels. There are 10km of trails to help you explore.
Explore the parkland, including an adventure playground, walled garden, fountain, visitor centre, and cafe.
